San Diego County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Nora Vargas Endorses Leticia Munguia for City Council

Chula Vista, CA – Today, Democrat Leticia Munguia's campaign for Chula Vista City Council District 3 announced the endorsement of San Diego County Supervisor Nora Vargas.

San Diego County Supervisor Nora Vargas endorsed Leticia, saying: "I have known Leticia for many years, she has been a tireless champion of working families and a true advocate for our communities. I am proud to endorse my friend, Leticia Munguia, for Chula Vista City Council District 3 because there is no doubt she will move Chula Vista forward!"

Nora Vargas was first elected to the San Diego County Board of Supervisors representing the 1st District in 2020. A first-generation immigrant, Vargas is the first Latina, first binational, and first woman of color to serve as County Supervisor in the near 200-year history of San Diego County. She was unanimously elected in January 2023 to serve as Chairwoman of the Board of Supervisors. Prior to her election to the Board of Supervisors, Vargas served as a member of the Southwestern College Governing Board, the only public institution of higher education in San Diego’s South County, as a nonprofit Senior Executive and the first Latina executive for the second largest reproductive health care provider in the nation. There, she focused on local, state, and national advocacy centered on safe, quality health care and education for women and families across California.

Leticia Munguia said: "Having the support of Nora Vargas – a dear friend and one of San Diego County’s most revered and dedicated public servants – means a great deal to me. I know that with Nora’s support, we are going to win this race and bring about the kinds of policies that will protect and enhance Chula Vista’s quality of life, making it an even greater place for our families."

The momentum behind Munguia’s campaign for Chula Vista City Council continues to build. She recently announced the endorsement of former Assemblymember and former Chula Vista Mayor Mary Casillas Salas, a well-respected figure throughout the South Bay, with a long history of public service and dedication to the betterment of her community.

Election Day is March 5, 2024.
